School BusesDaily during the school year, Alberta's school bus drivers are responsible for the safe transportation of young Albertans. All told the school buses in Alberta travel hundreds of thousands of kilometres a day. With all those kilometres travelled, you would think that school buses would be involved in a higher number of collisions than a regular passenger vehicle. That could not be further from the truth. Transport Canada reports that travel by school bus is one of the safest means of transportation for children. Among the reasons for the higher safety factor is highly trained professional drivers, and rigorous maintenance and inspection schedules. The School Bus section explores the school bus and its role in getting our children to school and home safely.Commercial Vehicles
Commercial vehicles can log millions of kilometers during the life span of the vehicle. These great distances, combined with the loads that they carry add to the wear and tear that the vehicle experiences. In Alberta, a mandatory safety inspection program called the Alberta Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program is in place to ensure the safety of commercial vehicles on our highways and the motoring public who travels beside them. The Transportation Safety Services Division contains information on commercial vehicles, inspections, air brakes, statistics on collisions and other items of interest. Last Updated March 07, 2011 |
