Vehicle Safety Head Graphic Just For Kids: Pedestrian Safety

At corners and crosswalks:

POINT across the road with your arm to show drivers you want to cross.

PAUSE until cars stop. Make eye contact with drivers.

PROCEED with your arm extended when all cars have stopped.
Keep scanning both sides of the road for hidden dangers. Drivers can't always see you.

Look for traffic safety signs, and marked crosswalks.

Walk on the sidewalk. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic.

Cross the road at the corner of the street or at a marked crosswalk, never in the middle of the road.
Watch for cars backing up and obstacles like cyclists, toys, tree branches, etc.

Obey pedestrian lights. Cross the street only when you see the walk sign and only when
all cars have come to a complete stop. If the walk hand begins flashing, continue walking.

And - NEVER run out from between parked cars or buses.
