Q: What does the Alberta Office of Traffic Safety
do? A: Transportation safety has long been - and remains - one of
Alberta Transportation's top priorities. Many of our
goals help advance safety across the province and, since 1996, the department's
Alberta Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) has been providing an umbrella
to coordinate and deliver results-oriented programs that address traffic
safety province-wide.
Traffic collisions are a significant burden on our society, not to mention
their impact on families and communities. The OTS, in association with
Alberta Transportation's Traffic Safety Services Division
and key traffic safety and injury prevention partners is creating and
implementing traffic safety programs that focus on four key areas: Information
and Awareness, Education, Standards and Enforcement. Changing public
attitudes to make road safety everyone's responsibility is the Initiative's
key objective. The focus of our programming is to capture and keep the
attention of all existing and potential drivers on driving problems,
driving skills, driver improvement, risks and consequences.
Traffic safety and the OTS is about business and government coming together
with communities and individuals and targeting resources toward a sustained,
all inclusive traffic safety program. Traffic safety is good for the
bottom line and it's good for Albertans. Alberta Transportation
will continue to look at Alberta's traffic safety problems and opportunities
and lay out plans to encourage a future of continued improvement and
accident prevention.
